MS Read-A-Thon!
We have officially begun!
Today was our kick-off assembly for the MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Read-A-Thon. Each student is being asked to read and raise money in support of those who have been affected by MS. All proceeds go to the MS Society of Canada. We are encouraging students to register online and have people donate through the MS Read-A-Thon Website (MS Read-A-Thon). However, if you would prefer more paper copies like the one going home today, please send a note to school and your child`s teacher will make sure some are sent home.
Happy reading!
Come, play with us!
The beauty of our Kindergartens at Woodstock Christian School is that what we believe about our children guides our teaching. We believe that children are natural, curious learners created in the image of God!
Special times often occur in the classroom when we see learning connections and inspirations.... and in Kindergarten these are often seen in the children's play. Playing makes learning visible!
But, what is play? It is easy to recognize, but difficult to define! Albert Einstein said that, "play is the highest form of research."
In recent years, much research about the benefits of play has surfaced. Play.......
■Expands intelligence;
■Is a testing ground for language and reasoning;
■Stimulates the imagination, encouraging problem solving;
■Helps develop confidence, self-esteem, a sense of strengths and weaknesses, and a positive attitude toward learning; and
■Is a significant factor in brain and muscle development.
As educators, we become learners as we observe, participate in and analyze this play. There is so much to learn about each child. Through this play process, we can see the gifts and challenges that our children have, prayerfully guide them and extend their learning.
On Thursday evening, at 7:30 our kindergartens will open their doors and provide an information evening giving you a sneak peek into our programs. All are welcome to come!

The teachers at WCS love to use exciting, fun and new ways to teach the children.
Mrs. Martin (our VERY talented music teacher) is working with the students to teach them both French counting and music skills during a recent music class.
Looks like everyone is having a great time!
A World of Imagination
Restorative Justice Video Series Home/School Evening:
You are invited to our fourth monthly home/school evening focusing on restorative justice at WCS scheduled for
Thursday evening, January 23rd from 7:30-9:00 pm.
This month we will be watching a 38 minute video produced by the Pacific Region of the RCMP for the Community Justice Forum entitled "Planting the Seeds” telling the story of how a community experienced healing through a formal restorative justice circle after several boys from a local school brought devastation to several neighbourhood homes. There will be time for relating this story to what happens at WCS in our commitment to be a restorative justice school.
Plan to join us for this informative, community- building evening!
PLEASE RSVP by Tuesday, January 21th if you plan to come. We need 5 people to sign up for this event to happen.
You can email the school at
office@woodstockchristian.ca or call 519 539 1492

Assessment
The thought of being assessed and evaluated is never pleasant but the exercise of being assessed is necessary. As educators at Woodstock Christian School we are responsible to deliver a high quality of education that satisfies the standards of Ontario's Ministry of Education and the Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools. We are to work each day with our students challenging them with learning concepts, inspiring them with learning discoveries and developing critical thinking skills for a successful and productive life of work and service in society.
As Christian educators at WCS, God has placed us in a unique position with His children. Ephesians 4:11-16 tells us: "And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain the unity of faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.”
As I work in God's community of believers at WCS, Mrs. Huinink Buiter's assessment of me is important. I am a 'joint' in the body of Christ and I must be 'working properly' in order for God to work through me to cause growth (and learning) for our students.
